Mandala Stones

I had a horrendous ear infection recently. It was obscenely painful, half my face was swollen, I couldn’t move my jaw without pain. My ear canal swelled so much it closed shut. I’m better now, mostly thanks to my sisters determination to get my ear drops in! Still slightly deaf in one ear and banned from swimming mind.

While I was in pain I couldn’t focus on much. I wanted to do something but really struggled. Moving hurt, eating hurt. I tried crochet but couldn’t focus, couldn’t stick to patterns. I played a lot of Fallout. I also tried a craft I’d been meaning to for a while – dot painting on stones.

My first couple of attempts didn’t turn out that well, but I did really enjoy the process. Building the patterns was absorbing without being prescriptive, and the tactile nature of the stones gave me something solid, grounding.

It turns out painting stones is rather addictive…

I’ve also started studying with the OU this week. I’m enjoying it but it’s a very different process for me. My attention span isn’t great, I find myself drifting away from what I’m reading much quicker than I used to. I’m hoping I’ll get better with practise but for now switching between reading and painting is working well.

Ive played round with dot painting on flat surfaces too. The first ones were just practicing patterns really, but I quite liked them.

I’ve played round with canvases too, and some mirror board. Interesting, but I still prefer the stones.

Now just to figure out what to do with my growing hoard of painted stones…

Those are so beautiful! They’re soothing just to look at, I can imagine how calming they’d be to make too 🙂

I’m glad your ear is better now 🙂
